One of the early cases involved the family of a serviceman who had been seriously wounded whilst serving in one of those sandy places.
To give him and his family an opportunity to get their lives back to something resembling normality, one of the website members offered them a free holiday in his apartment on a golf resort in Spain. The website's membership contributed to the cost of air fares and car hire, and the rest is history. We now have some three dozen villa and apartment owners in Spain who are providing free accommodation for the wounded and their families [and for widows and families as well].
Our clients either pay their own air fares, or get financial assistance from Regimental or Corps Associations, or are supported by yet another rattle of the "Begging Bowl" on the website. And Holidays4Heroes picks up the bill for cleaning the accommodation after they leave, so there's one more thing the families don't have to worry about.
During 2008, some 80 families were given a break from the routines of hospital visits and learning to live with injuries to, or the loss of, serving personnel. In 2009 a further 61 families benefitted, together with around 60 who received rapid response welfare assistance under the "Help them out" banner.
Looking to 2010, the year starts with 56 families earmarked for assistance - and that number will sadly increase as the year goes on.
To all, my husband was injured during a mortar attack on his camp during his tour of Iraq, luckily his injuries were nothing that wouldn't heal in time and he was alive unlike so many unfortunate others. I can't even begin to express our gratitude on behalf of my husband and two children who deserve this gift like so many others out there so thank you from the bottom of our hearts. God bless the fallen, keep safe the lads out there and most important keep on smiling!

Who We Help
Holidays 4 Heroes is an informal group of people that assists wounded service personnel and their families get a precious break from the routine of rehab, hospital appointments and visits to welfare offices by facilitating holidays away from it all in accommodation donated by our sponsors in the UK and abroad.
Deals with the cases that either lie outside the normal remit of the main Service Charities, or require a faster response than they can usually provide. Sometimes the cases require financial assistance, a little bit of nudging in the right direction for long-term help, or the application of a bit of expertise.
