CPL HOTSPUR IS PROMOTED TO SGT WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT.

To be absolutely honest, he was lucky to get that promotion. His new Desert uniform required new rank badges, and the only desert ones in stock were for sgt. We hope this promotion changes his luck permanently!

End of Year Report

slingsby12 months ago a plea for help for an ex servicemen who'd fallen on hard times was posted in the NAAFI forum on the Army Rumour Service web site. This is a report on the transition from this to where we are now.

Within hours we'd secured enough to ensure his property was safe, within a few more hours we had enough to provide him with a Christmas, a few more hours there was enough to send him to Spain along with his family and square away their passports. This is a long article but please take the time to read on.

Overseas Recruit

mfrcbear1Meet MCpl Amy Soldier, she is on the team to augmenting the ranks of the Royal Bear Corps. She'll be on exchange. Here's the story of her creator. Thanks to Fred Herman, the man who designed her, Fred Herman, is 33 year veteran of the CF. He holds the CD2 (that's 2 bars - CD is awarded for the first 12, then every ten after that a bar is added). He went on to work as a civvy with DND and then as a Commissionaire (made up of retired CF personnel).

"After serving for 33 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, I later followed that career within the Military environment for an additional 10 years. During my lengthy career, I was a multi-decorated Canadian Forces Peacekeeper. I then decided to seek out other opportunities to contribute to society and escape the possibility of boredom during my retirement years.

Our Status

Sgt Slingsby, Holidays 4 Heroes and Help Them Out are not registered charities but non profit making community organisations. This approach allows us to  both reduce governance costs and provide a response time to urgent cases that befits our stated objectives of having the shortest possible 'flash to bang' time. If you have any concerns about this please do not hesitate to contact us.

Holidays 4 Heroes

Holidays 4 Heroes LogoHolidays 4 Heroes is an informal group of people that assists wounded service personnel and their families get a precious break from the routine of rehab, hospital appointments and visits to welfare offices by facilitating holidays away from it all in accommodation donated by our sponsors in the UK and abroad.

Help Them Out

Help Them Out logoDeals with the cases that either lie outside the normal remit of the main Service Charities, or require a faster response than they can usually provide.  Sometimes the cases require financial assistance, a little bit of nudging in the right direction for long-term help, or the application of a bit of expertise.
