MCpl AMY visits the Imperial War Museum

thumb_amy_iwmnHow many Imperial War Museums are there? You only had ONE Empire!!

Anyway, I was delighted [as a visitor to your British Shores] to be taken to one of them - the attractively named "Imperial War Museum North". Hey, I bet they paid a PR guy a lot of money to come up with that catchy name!!

It is located on the banks of some great canal system in Manchester, and I will admit it was a LOT better than it sounded! Cool, clean and modern for a start, and not a dinosaur skeleton in sight! Instead they have tanks [Iraqi and Russian] outdoors and indoors, and a skip of other transportation stuff as well. I discovered they even had mules - I couldn't resist a ride, but I passed on the Trabant. There are limits, guys!

There are artifacts and stories everywhere - you could spend hours here! I loved the story of the Blitz, and the cute "shrapnel shelter" for the Blitz fire-watchers. But of course, being a Medic, I had to spend a lot of time looking at the extensive medical displays. I think things may have moved on just a little bit since then.

Thanks, Bearer - that was a great day out. Now - about this diving thing? and my overseas trip?
