Grenada - Falling Under Your Spell

thumb_braille_grenadaSgt Braille got fed up with the British Winter, and managed to charm his way into a lady's suitcase for a few weeks of warmth and sunshine in Grenada.

At the risk of being boring, this is more an album of someone's pictures rather than a story of my adventures. After all, I had to remember I was travelling as excess baggage on someone else's holiday!!

Grenada is the southernmost island of the Eastern Carribean, and lies about 85 mile north of Trinidad. Temperatures reached 110F, then we had rain like a waterfall ... no wonder the island is so amazingly lush and green. Fine, white sand and turquoise sea, fresh tropical fruits in abundance - including bananas - and of course the rum! All the time I was thinking about the British weather [that cold grey wet stuff] and realising how lucky I was to be here. I was also glad I hadn't bothered to pack my full uniform!

I visited the capital, St Georges, tucked away in its beautiful little bay.
I saw Concord Waterfall, buried in the jungle.
I paddled on the beach at Sauteurs, below the precipice at Leapers Hill, where the Caribs made their last stand against the French in 1651 - and leaped to their death rather than surrender.
I passed on the hot sulphur spring!!
And I will never forget "D Underground Bar" in Marigot, which brought on waves of nostalgia for a cold wet London, before I settled down for another rum!

Lovely, warm, unspoiled Grenada. It was a shock to come back to the snow and ice of the UK. Can I go again with someone, please?

Help Them Out

Help Them Out logoDeals with the cases that either lie outside the normal remit of the main Service Charities, or require a faster response than they can usually provide.  Sometimes the cases require financial assistance, a little bit of nudging in the right direction for long-term help, or the application of a bit of expertise.
