Another outing for Sgt Braille ... I had barely had time to re-acclimatise to the chill of Scotland after the heat of La Torre before my bearer and her OH packed me into the car, along with Jake the dog, to attend the Elrat (East Lothian Road And Trail Motorcycle Club) Enduro at Griffin Forest, near Aberfeldy.
For the uninitiated, Enduro Motorcycling involves faintly mad individuals tearing across rough countryside in timed trials over distances of up to 25 miles per lap. The Elrat Enduro had already been postponed from September, due to a month's worth of rain in two days making the course unusable. However, as this was the final round of the Scottish Championship, this time the show did go on!
I had an interesting day watching the participants becoming increasingly dirty, sweaty, wet and muddy with each successive lap, so much so that by the finish it was almost impossible to tell them apart. Some of the bogs were so deep that even the rescue quad bike managed to get stuck!!!
Although it was not possible to raise much money on this outing (there are no pockets for cash in Enduro kit) many people asked about me and the Chairman of the SACU (Scottish Auto Cycle Union) promised to put a link to the Sgt Slingsby site in the next edition of their Newsletter.
See if you can spot the "before" and "after" pics below ........

Holidays 4 Heroes is an informal group of people that assists wounded service personnel and their families get a precious break from the routine of rehab, hospital appointments and visits to welfare offices by facilitating holidays away from it all in accommodation donated by our sponsors in the UK and abroad.
Deals with the cases that either lie outside the normal remit of the main Service Charities, or require a faster response than they can usually provide. Sometimes the cases require financial assistance, a little bit of nudging in the right direction for long-term help, or the application of a bit of expertise.
